The Tower Bridge is one of the most famous and sophisticated bascule bridges ever built. Due to the rapid population increase to London's east side the bridge was commissioned in 1876 and finished in 1894. The "see-saw" style opening allowed shipping traffic to continue and takes only one minute to fully open to 86 degrees. When you hear a ship toot their horn twice wait and you will see this amazing bridge in action. Just don't confuse the Tower Bridge with the London Bridge (that's the boring looking one down stream).
